Statement from the Chair of CMC
Welcome to the official website of the Centre for Language and Communication Services, Makerere University. The Center for Language and Communication Services, also known as The Makerere Institute of Languages Project (MIL Project), is a project of the Department of Linguistics, English Language Studies and Communication Skills (DLEC), the Department of European and Oriental languages (DEOL) and the Department of African Languages (DEAL), which under the new collegiate system constitute the School for Languages, Literature and Communication of Makerere University. Therefore, as Chairperson of the Centre Management Committee, I introduce to you the Centre for Languages and Communication Services (CLCS).
The MIL Project was founded in 1992, by the faculty of the four language departments, with a mandate to provide expert language and communication services to Ugandans and international populaces. I am delighted to mention that this overarching aim for its establishment has successfully been institutionalized sustainably. The Centre for Language and Communication Services, Makerere University comprises a pool of language and communication specialists who are renowned for their expertise and quality of service in the language and communications business sector.
To date, the Centre for Language and Communication Services (CLCS), the implementing agent for the MIL Project, boasts a collection of PhDs and other technical experts, under the leadership umbrella of the Project Management Committee (PMC), acting as the Board of Governors, and the Centre Management Committee (CMC), as the overseer body of the operations of the Centre business. The Dean of the School of Languages, literature and Communication, serving as the Chairperson of the Management committee of the Centre for Language and Communication Services (MIL project).
The Centre for Language and Communication Services therefore is a one-stop-shop for all Language and Communication needs, that serves as the accredited unit for the translation, interpretation, and language communications services for the Government of Uganda, offering expertise for its Ministries, Authorities, Departments and Agencies like Uganda National Examinations Board.
The CLCS also is the accredited unit for the English, French, German, Luganda and Swahili Language Proficiency Certification for Uganda.
